Description
Named after a work by Brazilian-born American artist Ibraim Nascimento’s Santo series, Menino Deus is a single origin from Brazil and our darkest roasted coffee. It features a surprising sweetness backlit by our long development of the caramelization process, which brings forward a creamy, toasted sugar quality. Perfect for a bold espresso that effortlessly cuts through steamed milk.
Profile
Flavor notes: Sugar cane, creme brulee, papaya
Roasting notes: Our darkest roast
Region
These Mundo Novo, Yellow Catuai, Red Catuai, and Acaia varietals are grown in the Cerrado region of Minas Gerais, Brazil at 915-1219 meters above sea level, then mechanically dried and naturally fermented.
Story
Menino Deus is grown in rich soil known by the indigenous people as “Terra Roxa,” or red earth, and factors such as consistent rains, high daytime temperatures, and dry winters. These extreme conditions make the Cerrado region ideal for producing delicious coffee.
These extreme conditions mirror the long burn of colonialism and slavery that brought Africans to the Americas. Through tragic circumstances, humans still manage to create beauty and strength by mixing cultures, people, and traditions. The Santos series celebrates the unique amalgam of African, Brazilian, and European cultures that shape the Afro-Brazilian experience. This coffee reflects on the conventional religious concepts that were refined by heat and pressure over time to shape something wholly new.
