About Heilandt Kaffeemanufaktur

A brief history of our coffee

The Heilandt story begins with four friends and - like many other things in life - with a good cup of coffee. At some point in 2010, they sat together and discussed why so few manufacturers actually manage to produce really good coffee. All four of them had had very different professional backgrounds and were fanatical coffee fans. Nevertheless, it was a crazy idea to open a roastery yourself and to make your own claim coffee.

Cups of Heilandt coffee

Said and done. Friends became founders (and still remained friends). It would probably have been enough for the founding friends to prove to themselves that they can produce the perfect coffee and to end the experiment again after a few months of enjoyment and empty coffers. But it didn't happen that way. In no time at all, there was a large and growing number of people who liked Heilandt's coffee so much that they didn't want to drink anymore. If it continues like this, Heilandt will one day become a larger, small roastery - but never a large one.

Those who love coffee roast it very gently.

Perfect enjoyment needs peace and quiet. This applies to drinking coffee, but it also applies to roasting. In the Heilandt roastery, every bean gets what it needs to develop its aroma. For us, the taste is handcrafted. Each type of coffee is roasted individually in the drum roaster - very gently, at a maximum of 210 ° C and for up to 18 minutes. This is the only way for the roaster to be very specific about the type, bean size and use as an espresso or filter coffee. He can smell when the coffee is perfectly roasted - and he can hear it too.

Heilandt coffee is 100% traded directly and we guarantee you the following standards with our "direct trade" seal:

  • There is direct contact with the farmers or, at most, a person or partner organization we trust is intervening.
  • Our coffee farmers are paid on average at least 50% above the fair trade price and the prices are negotiated directly.
  • We create transparency as to how, where, and by whom the coffee was produced.
  • Green coffee comes from producers who commit themselves to agriculturally sustainable practices and, to our knowledge, adhere to fair working conditions.
  • Long trade relationships with the farmers and quality-promoting measures on the plantations are indispensable in order to promote them sustainably by imparting knowledge and equipment.
