Description

Coffees from Costa Rica are among the best in the world. Its Central Valley is an ideal place to grow coffee because of its altitude and mineral-rich volcanic soil. The coffee planting cycle begins in May.

Coffee has been called “The Golden Bean” because of the economic prosperity it has brought to Costa Rica. Over the past 100 years, coffee has transformed Costa Rica from a colonial backwater into a relatively prosperous and cosmopolitan republic.

The Tarrazú region has an ideal climate for growing some of the best coffees in the world. Its altitude, volcanic soils, and temperatures produce a clean, smooth, and balanced cup.

The vast majority of Costa Rican coffees come from the Tarrazú area, near Poas Volcano.

Coffees from the region are grown at altitudes of 1,200 meters or higher, qualifying them as SHB (strictly hard bean), the highest classification in Costa Rica's system.

CoopeTarrazu currently has 2,600 members. The cooperative helps members access technical assistance, low-cost loans, and low prices on fertilizers. The cooperative's most important contribution is the economic benefit it provides to the region and its members. It has more than 50 years of experience and tradition. The cooperative's five principles are Solidarity, Transparency, Sustainability, Quality, and Service. It is Fairtrade certified.

La Pastora is a coffee developed by CoopeTarrazu, a cooperative recognized in San Marcos,

Tarrazú, which provides its members with coffee processing facilities, marketing tools, and export services.
