Description

The district of Espirito Santo do Pinhal, better known as “Baixa Mogiana,” is located in the heart of the state of Sao Paulo. It has an average altitude of about 900 meters, ranging from 800 to 1,300 meters above sea level. The region’s average temperature is 20°, with abundant rainfall and very fertile soil, making it ideal for agriculture and, in this case, coffee.

These favorable climatic conditions have been put to use by the people of Pinhal to grow coffee—one of the region’s main sources of wealth. Annual production is about 300,000 bags of 60 kg, with an average yield of around 25 bags of 60 kg per hectare.

100% of the coffee produced in the region is Arabica, with 80% processed using the Natural drying method and 20% using the semi-washed method, better known as “Cereja Descascada.”

Most harvesting is done by hand, with mechanized harvesting accounting for 30%. Harvesting takes place from May to September.

The botanical varieties grown in the region are Bourbon, Catuai, Mundo Novo, Icatu, and Obata. The most widespread is Mundo Novo, accounting for about 70% of production.

In addition to coffee, the region is well known for its factories producing coffee-related machinery and equipment, such as “Pinhalense.”

As for Único coffee, it is processed with great care, including the hand selection of ripe cherries, which encourages greater sweetness, at an altitude of about 1,100 meters, which positively influences acidity.
It is mostly Natural coffee, though it may include a percentage of semi-washed coffee, always maintaining a balanced cup profile and a silky body of medium-high intensity. The aroma stands out with sweet (caramelized) notes, hazelnut, and ripe fruit, which carry through to the flavor.
