At Finca Soledad, every step of the process is carried out with the utmost care and love for nature—day and night. Every lot they produce is unique and an expression of the moment, the energy of the pickers, the balance of microorganisms in the soil, and the weather. Everything comes together to create a work of art by nature. The coffee cherries for this lot were fermented with yeast in sealed tanks under controlled conditions for 4–5 days after depulping. The coffee was then dried for 21 days at controlled temperatures in a dark room. A short period of shade drying ensured even residual moisture before the coffee rested and stabilized for another 21 days in GrainPro bags at a constant temperature.

Finca Soledad is located on a beautiful mountainside overlooking the Intag Valley, through which the river of the same name winds. After many years as a mountaineer and explorer, Pepe longed for a quieter life and bought this four-hectare plot of land in 2010. He wanted to be closer to nature again—and found his place right here.

It was only later that Pepe discovered his passion for coffee. What began as a fresh start gradually developed into one of Ecuador’s most exciting specialty coffee farms.

The region around the finca is incredibly green and rich in biodiversity, but for many years it was affected by deforestation. That’s why Pepe and his team have made it their mission to restore the original forest. They have now planted around 25,000 trees and are gradually transforming the finca back into the lush paradise Pepe always dreamed of.

The journey hasn’t always been easy. Growing coffee brought many challenges, but with patience and perseverance, they created a place where sustainability, nature, and people’s well-being are at the heart of everything. Ask Pepe what makes Finca Soledad so special to him, and his answer is simple: “This is my life. I find peace here.”

Perhaps that’s exactly why the coffees from Finca Soledad are so unique. The tranquility, nature, and care that go into the work here are reflected in every cup. Today, the finca is home primarily to the Typica Mejorada and Sidra varieties. They are complemented by smaller quantities of Geisha, as well as Caturra and Castillo.
