Description

Asian coffees have distinctive characteristics that set them apart from Caribbean and African coffees. We could describe them as ‘exotic.’ This is mainly due to the influence of the monsoon climate, with very little temperature variation throughout the year, as well as the distinctive processing method known as “fully washed,” or double washing. Other factors, such as the volcanic soil and altitude (this coffee is grown at elevations between 1,600 and 2,000 meters above sea level), contribute to its special character. This coffee also stands out as one of the most balanced coffees produced in Asia.

In Papua New Guinea, most coffee is produced by small-scale farmers who use traditional production methods, such as intercropping with other crops in the forest. They rarely use agrochemicals, mainly because of their highly traditional production model and subsistence economy, which leaves them unable to afford chemical fertilizers or pesticides—a benefit for consumers as well. This coffee should be considered organic, but for the same reason mentioned above, these beans are not certified.
