Description

Süssmund’s first Arabica blend is a low-acidity dark roast, very chocolatey and full-bodied. It was inspired by strong women (mujeres fuertes) in coffee growing. In our search for the right green coffees, we found what we were looking for with two cooperatives in Colombia (El Bombo) and Peru (La Prosperidad de Chirinos).

Both cooperatives specifically promote women’s economic participation and health in coffee growing. Their initiatives include sharing knowledge to optimize farming techniques and the subsequent processing of coffee cherries on the farm. This helps members improve the quality and yield of their harvests and earn a higher income. The La Prosperidad de Chirinos cooperative also pays female producers in the "Cosecha de Mujer" program an additional premium for every bag of coffee.

The producers’ farms are planted using intercropping. Food crops between the coffee bushes provide shade, maintain healthy soil, and create habitats for birds and insects. These crops and their organic fertilizers also support rich biodiversity.

Ripe coffee cherries are hand-picked and then processed directly on the farms. First, small hand-operated depulpers remove the pulp from the coffee beans. The beans are then fermented in tanks for 12–36 hours and washed in water tanks. After wet processing (washed), the coffee beans are dried on raised beds before the dried parchment is transported to the dry mill. There, the beans are removed from the parchment, sorted by quality, and prepared for export.

We’re delighted to present this delightfully chocolatey espresso. It tastes especially good as a classic espresso, but also pairs very well with milk.
