Description

The beans come from the mountainous region of Huehuetenago, Guatemala’s best-known coffee-growing region. Its name comes from the historic Aztec language Nahuatl and means “place of the ancestors.” The area ranges in elevation from 300 to 3,850 meters above sea level. Coffee is grown here at elevations of 1,350–2,000 meters above sea level. These are exclusively high-quality, hard beans labeled “SHB” (Strictly Hard Beans). Conditions for growing coffee in Guatemala vary because the country has a highly diverse climate. Huehuetenango offers excellent conditions for growing dense beans. Intense sunshine during the day and cool winds at night encourage slow plant growth, ensuring a high-quality crop. Coffees from this region are known for their clean flavor and acidity reminiscent of lemons and tropical fruit.

A coffee flavor you’ll come back to

Our customers often tell us that ever since they started drinking our coffees, the popular coffees they used to buy no longer taste good to them. Their sensory complexity opens up a world of flavor and aroma that they want to return to. We then invite them to seek out new experiences from our wide selection. Each coffee has its own distinctive flavor notes, shaped by the place where it is grown. This is known as TERROIR—the soil type, weather and climate characteristic of a given area, annual rainfall, and growing altitude. All these factors give coffees from different regions their unique flavors. We know how to bring out those flavors through a roasting approach we have refined over many years.

Artisanal coffee roasting

What sets us apart from industrial coffee roasters is, above all, the quality of our green coffee and the way we roast the beans. We roast our coffees at low temperatures in drum roasters and cool them with ambient air after roasting (rather than water, as industrial roasters do). This allows us to bring out the coffees’ best sensory qualities, rich flavors, and distinctive aromas. We use specialized software for the entire process, which stores our roasting recipes for each coffee. These roasting profiles have been refined over the years by our Roaster. This means we can be sure that every time you reach for our coffee, its flavor will be excellent and consistent.

Trusted green coffee suppliers

Over many years in the industry, we have met wonderful people in the coffee business. They include both coffee-trading companies and farmers themselves. We choose to work only with suppliers for whom quality is the top priority. Transparency and fairness are also important to us. That’s why we decided to join the fair trade organization Fairtrade. Before every delivery, we know exactly where the beans come from, their quality, which harvest they are from, and their sensory profile. We are interested exclusively in the highest-quality premium and specialty beans. Every batch of green coffee that arrives at our roastery is evaluated, and its moisture level is tested. This allows us to ensure that the coffee we supply is of excellent quality.

Convenient coffee packaging

All our coffees are packed in special bags fitted with a valve to release gas from the beans. The bags also have an easy-open feature and a resealable zipper. This helps the coffee stay fresh long after the bag is opened. Our coffees are roasted regularly. The packaging includes all the information about the beans’ origin, sensory profile, recommended brewing method, and roast date for each batch. This makes it easier for you to make the right choice.
