Description
An expressive, vibrant coffee with an intense berry aroma and harmonious sweetness. Juicy black currants mingle with notes of blueberries, raspberries, and bright floral highlights for a complex, clear cup with a long, juicy finish. Ideal for anyone looking for a classic Kenyan profile.
This washed AA lot comes from Kagere Factory in Kenya’s Nyeri County. Coffee cherries are delivered by numerous smallholder farmers in the region, then carefully sorted and traditionally washed at the washing station. After pulping, the coffee ferments in concrete tanks, is washed and soaked, and then slowly dried on raised beds to a moisture content of 11–12%. The result is an exceptionally clear cup with the vibrant fruitiness and precision for which Kenyan coffees are appreciated worldwide.
Kagere Factory processes the harvests of around 800 smallholder farmers from the surrounding hills of Nyeri. Each producer tends an average of about 100 coffee trees, usually on small family plots passed down through generations. The traditional Kenyan varieties SL28 and SL34 predominate—two classic Kenyan cultivars prized worldwide for their outstanding cup quality. The highland climate, mineral-rich soils, and deep-rooted plants create ideal conditions for coffees with vibrant acidity, layered sweetness, and exceptional clarity. Organized as a Farmer Cooperative Society (FCS), the cooperative handles coffee processing and marketing and passes most of the proceeds directly to its members. Kenya’s transparent auction system ensures complete traceability and fair compensation for producers. Close collaboration with quality-focused cooperatives results in exceptional coffees year after year, authentically expressing the region’s distinctive character.
