A Gegrond classic is finally back.
One of the very first coffees we roasted here at Gegrond was from Popayán, Colombia. It quickly became an all-time favourite and our best seller until sourcing ran dry. We are beyond excited to welcome this iconic origin back to our lineup!
Founded in 1537, Popayán is famously known as “La Ciudad Blanca” for its chalk-white colonial architecture. Surrounded by the high-altitude volcanic slopes of Cauca’s Pubenza Valley, smallholder farmers cultivate these cherries on plots of 5 to 10 hectares, delivering hand-harvested cherry to central washing stations where regional consistency and balance shine.
The result in the cup is deeply comforting, opening with a warm aroma of dried apple and butterscotch. Expect nuanced tasting notes of almonds, dried apple, caramelised brown sugar, and juicy pomegranates, complemented by a thick, creamy mouthfeel and a pleasant sweet apple acidity.
