Description

French Roast

Origin: Colombia Mina Rica
Process: Fully washed
What we taste: Tobacco, semi-sweet chocolate

Old City Coffee's darkest roast – and from a coffee roaster known for forty years of quality dark roasts, you know this means dark. This traditional, bold, and delicious brew is freshly roasted with Colombian beans. Our French Roast is foundational in many of our blends, but it is also a bold classic that stands on its own. Perfect for those looking for a dark, less acidic cup that brews well as drip, espresso, or as you might guess, French press.

What exactly is a French Roast? Though often used to describe any coffee on the darker side, we use this name to precisely refer to coffee beans that have passed the “second crack” in the roasting process. When roasting coffee, you can hear a soft crackling sound that signals the release of steam – any remaining moisture – from the beans. But when you hear this crackling for a second time later in the roast, the beans have reached a high enough temperature that oils, rather than moisture, start releasing from the beans. A truly hot cup of joe!
