Rwanda produces very high-quality coffee, which is carefully washed. The coffee grows in volcanic soil at elevations of 1,500–2,200 m above sea level. It is grown and processed on small farms of less than 2.5 hectares.

Following the civil war, nearly all of Rwanda’s coffee plantations were completely destroyed after 1994. Fortunately, with international aid, the industry began to recover in the early 21st century. The coffee offered here comes from a “private import” by the Salvatti Foundation, which helps local people meet their basic needs. Some of the proceeds from coffee sales go toward education, building schools, water wells, and more.

Rwanda Gashonga is grown at an elevation of 1,683 meters in western Rwanda, tucked between Congo and Burundi. The coffee farms are small, making this a rare find on the global market. Its uniqueness comes from a truly extraordinary
marzipan note with pronounced sweetness. The coffee has a complex flavor, with delicate
notes of dark cocoa, sweet-and-tart mulberry, a touch of plum preserves, wild rose, and
lemon peel. It is hand-picked, and carefully selected cherries are washed. Sensory score: 86 SCA points.
