Founded in 1968, the Prosperidad de Chirinos cooperative now brings together 817 members, a quarter of whom are women. Together, they cultivate around 2,200 hectares in San Ignacio, in the Cajamarca region. The high altitudes of this mountainous area offer ideal conditions for producing high-quality coffee.

A Total Commitment to Producers

The cooperative offers a wide range of programs to support its members. In addition to agronomic assistance and financing, farmers receive training in sensory evaluation and learn to diversify their income through other agricultural projects, such as beekeeping and avocado growing.

The organization also invests in people: managers and agricultural leaders receive in-depth training in management, financial administration, and good governance.

Equality and Passing the Torch: The Pillars of the Future

More than a quarter of Prosperidad de Chirinos members are women. The cooperative is working to address this imbalance through a women's committee dedicated to empowering its members. This commitment is bearing fruit, as many women now hold leadership positions.

Young people are also supported through a youth committee focused on assisting new producers. Finally, a partnership with the National University of Jaén provides funding each year for the higher education of 10 children of cooperative members.

Agronomic Support and Innovation

Members receive comprehensive agronomic support, training in Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), and easier access to financing.

To ensure continuous quality improvement, the cooperative has established a demonstration plot in San Ignacio. This learning center allows producers to observe techniques for:

• Fertilization management.
• Integrated pest management.
• Best harvesting practices for optimal ripeness.
