Description

NICK Organic Espresso, the classic among our espresso roasts. This coffee is excellent as a low-acidity, full-bodied espresso. Even in larger milk drinks, it still has enough punch and its full body comes through the milk.

We roast this espresso longer and darker. This removes the coffee’s sour taste and gives it its bold character.

The coffee is also very forgiving and tastes good even when the coffee machine isn’t set up exactly right.

Farm:

The story of Fazendas Dutra began in the 1950s, when José Dutra Sobrinho (also known as Zeca Dutra) inherited a small farm. For 40 years, he devoted himself to coffee cultivation, producing Pulped Natural coffee until 1980 while continuing to think about the future. In 1999, after the death of Zeca Dutra, the family farms were passed on to the brothers Ednilson and Walter. The two inherited more than 300 hectares of coffee and took responsibility for the future of the family business. Since then, Walter and Ednilson have worked to increase their production, knowledge, and sustainability. The 300 hectares they inherited have grown to 700 hectares of coffee spread across a total of 1,000 hectares of land, producing 245,000 bags of coffee annually. By taking courses and participating in competitions, they have gained experience over the years to improve the quality of their harvests as well. The farms now hold a number of sustainability certifications, including Organic and Rainforest Alliance certification. This lot of naturally processed coffee is a blend of Red Catuai, Mundo Novo, and Catucai, grown between 600 and 1,200 meters above sea level.

Region description:

The coffee-growing region of Matas de Minas lies in the southeastern part of the state of Minas Gerais, just beyond the border with Espirito Santo, with Alto Caparaó the best-known of the 63 municipalities that make up the region. With its distinctive topography of rugged mountain terrain, mild climate in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, and wide range of elevations
(between 600 and 1,450 meters above sea level), Matas de Minas is a perfect region for growing specialty coffee. The region’s unique conditions mean that particular care is given to cultivating all crops. Coffee is harvested by hand to select only the ripest beans, trees are planted farther apart to receive more sunlight, only treated water is used to wash and dissolve the beans, and drying is carried out meticulously and carefully. The region’s family farms value sustainability and the natural integration of people and land. Together, these factors favor the production of the highest-quality coffees, full-bodied and rich in wonderful nuances of aroma and flavor.
