Description
La Jaguara returns once again from Campo das Vertentes, Brazil, a region shaped by its mining history and now recognized for the quality and evolution of its coffee growing. Grown at 1,100 meters above sea level on a 90-hectare farm, this coffee reflects a balance between agricultural tradition and a constant drive to improve processes and results in the cup.
The Jaguara project began in 2001 with agronomist Antonio Wander and, over time, passed to the next generation, André Luiz and Natália, who have ushered in a new phase focused on innovation and sustainability. Their approach combines technical knowledge, experimentation, and responsible management of natural resources, making the farm a benchmark in the Brazilian coffee scene. This commitment to quality helped the farm rank among Brazil’s best coffees at the 2019 Cup of Excellence, where one of its microlots placed fifth.
This Catuaí lot, processed as Natural, captures the farm’s sweetest and most comforting qualities. After the cherries are hand-picked at peak ripeness, the coffee is dried with the cherry intact, allowing the beans to absorb all the fruit’s sweetness and aromatic intensity. The result is a full-bodied cup with pronounced sweetness and a well-defined chocolate profile.
In the cup, La Jaguara offers a dense, indulgent, and deeply comforting profile. Nuts take center stage, providing a roasted, deep base that defines the coffee’s character from the first sip. Dates add a warm, dark, enveloping sweetness that brings body and lingering flavor, while chocolate mousse rounds out the profile with silky creaminess and chocolate depth, making for an exceptionally well-balanced cup. With medium-high body and medium-low acidity, it is dense, indulgent, and very approachable.
Scoring 84 points and with a roast developed specifically for espresso, La Jaguara shines under pressure: the nuts and dates intensify and become more distinctive, while the chocolate mousse adds creaminess and depth ideal for a cup of espresso. A coffee for those seeking sweetness, body, and a Brazilian coffee with a personality all its own.
La Jaguara is more than a returning coffee: it is a project that continues to evolve. A cup that speaks of experimentation, continuity, and how well-applied innovation can transform Brazil’s classic profile into something more complex and expressive.
