Description

Kenya AA Wamuguma

We love coffee from Africa and are delighted to introduce you to this beautiful washed AA lot from the Wamuguma Factory in the Kiambu region.

Wamuguma Coffee Factory is located in Gatundu South, in northern Kiambu, near the border with Muranga—the area considered the home of Kenya’s first president, Jomo Kenyatta. It is one of two washing stations operated by Ritho Farmers' Cooperative Society, founded in 1995 after splitting from the large Gatundu Farmers' Cooperative Society. Around 1,700 smallholder farmers deliver their cherries here; the cooperative focuses on training in agricultural practices and actively involving women and younger generations to safeguard the quality and future of production.

Kiambu lies near the equator and, as a classic highland-growing region, offers ideal conditions for exceptional Arabicas—iron-rich, semi-volcanic soils, abundant sunshine, and growing elevations of 1,700 to 1,900 meters. The cool nights allow the cherries to ripen slowly, producing the vibrant acidity and unique aromatic complexity for which Kenyan coffee is prized. The varieties grown are Batian, Ruiru 11, and SL28.

The coffee is traditionally processed using the “fully washed” method. After pulping, it ferments for 12 to 48 hours, is washed, and then sun-dried for two to three weeks on African raised beds. It then rests in parchment for three weeks before the parchment is removed and the beans are sorted and hand-picked.

Look forward to an outstanding cup with notes of blackcurrant, rhubarb, and rosehip.
