The Dimtu Wate station, located in the Hambela district of Guji, Ethiopia, receives coffee cherries from around 600 small-scale farmers across villages (kebeles) such as Buku Sayisa and Dimtu.

Among the Gujoo stations, Wate is the highest in altitude and produces exclusively top-quality coffee (G1). The harvest takes place from December to early February.

During the harvest season, 100 to 150 people from the region work as pickers. The coffee trees are relatively young, around 10 to 20 years old, and the station was established in 2019 to address the decline in cup quality caused by aging coffee trees in the surrounding areas.

The station is equipped with a Penagos eco-pulper, which reduces water consumption while efficiently removing mucilage, producing clean, consistent lots with minimal environmental impact.

The cherries delivered by farmers include local varieties such as Wolichu and Kudhume, as well as improved cultivars such as varieties 74112 and 74110.

Gujoo also invests in social projects in the region, including distributing 1,000 reusable sanitary pads to schoolgirls in collaboration with an American roaster. The company also plans to install water pumps equipped with purification filters to sustainably improve living conditions for the local community.

At the Dimtu station, cherries are processed using a Penagos eco-pulper. This machine significantly reduces water consumption while efficiently removing mucilage, which shortens fermentation times. It also automatically separates unripe beans, producing clean, consistent lots with minimal environmental impact.
