Description

A coffee with a story of hard work and passion.

Behind this specialty coffee is Hertson Bernal, producer and owner of Finca La Esperanza, located in Colombia. His story is an example of perseverance and a love of coffee.

Hertson and his brother Jesús began by managing a coffee farm for several years. Thanks to that experience, they gained the knowledge they needed to start their own project. With savings from growing lulo, a fruit native to the region, they were able to buy an abandoned farm that, with hard work and dedication, they transformed into today’s Finca La Esperanza.

Little by little, they renewed the plantings with Caturra, Castillo, Colombia, and Cenicafé varieties, built a new wet mill, improved the facilities, and created a family project that continues to grow today.

After taking part in various coffee fairs, Hertson discovered the potential of specialty coffee, a passion that led him to perfect every detail of the production and processing of his coffees.

Today, the whole family takes part in the farm’s daily work alongside a team of pickers and workers who share the same goal: producing the highest-quality coffees while respecting every stage of the process.

This coffee was produced using a washed process with aerobic fermentation, a technique intended to enhance clarity, aromatic complexity, and balance in the cup.

After the cherries are hand-picked at optimal ripeness, the coffee is depulped and fermented in the presence of oxygen for a carefully controlled amount of time. During fermentation, microorganisms develop compounds that intensify the natural expression of the origin without masking its characteristics.

Once fermentation is complete, the coffee is washed with clean water to remove the mucilage and then slowly dried until it reaches the ideal moisture level for storage.

The result is a clean, elegant cup with clearly defined flavors.

This coffee stands out for its sweet, fruity, and very balanced profile. It has medium acidity, a creamy body, and a long, sweet finish that invites you to enjoy every sip.
Thanks to its clean, fruity, and balanced profile, this coffee shines especially in filter methods that let you appreciate its full aromatic complexity.

We recommend preparing it with:

* V60 → brings out blood orange, red plum, and panela sweetness.
* Kalita Wave → makes a very balanced cup with a full body.
* Origami Dripper → ideal for enhancing its complexity and elegance.
* Chemex → produces an especially clean and delicate cup.
* Aeropress → perfect if you’re looking for a fuller-bodied drink with pronounced sweetness.

It also makes an excellent espresso, where notes of almond, chocolate, and ripe fruit come through more intensely, accompanied by a silky, creamy texture.
