Description

Colombia is located in the northern part of South America. It currently ranks third among the world's largest coffee producers. Most of Colombia's coffee farms are located in the so-called Coffee Triangle, which consists of the three regions of Risaralda, Caldas, and Quindio. The historic coffee village of Ciudad Bolivar is in the Antioquia region, about a two-hour drive from the major city of Medellin. One of Colombia's oldest coffee farms, Hacienda La Claudina, is located here. Built in 1893, the farmhouse still stands and is the centerpiece of La Claudina, which has been growing exceptional Colombian highland coffee for more than 100 years. From the main house, you can see the impressive mountain panorama of Los Farallones del Citara, which reaches almost 4,000 meters in elevation. The finest highland coffees grow across 16 hectares of farmland at elevations of 1,300–1,870 meters, divided into smaller plots. Most of the Arabica coffee is the Castillo variety, which is particularly disease-resistant. The neighboring rainforest, with its wonderfully moist mountain breezes, the growing altitude, and the fertile volcanic soil give Colombian coffee its full-bodied yet mild character and incomparable acidity. Between September and December, around 60 farm workers harvest, sort, and process the coffee beans by hand.
