Description

ABOUT THIS COFFEE
This SL28 Arabica coffee is grown and processed by members of the Rwenzori Snow Cooperative in Kyamabwe Parish, on the slopes of the Rwenzori Mountains in western Uganda. The cooperative was founded in 2023 by three local smallholders—Muhindo, Kisembo, and Mugume—after they observed that smallholders selling individually received low prices, had limited market access, and struggled to maintain consistent quality.
Muhindo had previously received training in specialty coffee production, bringing valuable technical knowledge to the group and helping guide the cooperative’s commitment to quality and continued learning.
To support its members, the cooperative established a coffee tree and shade tree nursery to help smallholders improve productivity and promote long-term sustainability. It also mobilizes and trains smallholders in good agronomic practices and post-harvest handling.
The cooperative holds seasonal meetings where members agree on harvest arrangements, such as expected volumes, based on available contracts and coffee cherry delivery procedures. Smallholders harvest ripe cherries, float them on their farms to remove defects, then deliver them to the cooperative for careful, controlled drying.
Located between 1800 and 2100 meters above sea level, the smallholders grow coffee organically alongside bananas, yams, and shade trees such as mango, avocado, and musizi trees.
