Description

Mainzer Schümli – Smooth and Full-Bodied

Our Mainzer Schümli is an especially balanced espresso roast developed specifically for superautomatic coffee machines, with gentle intensity, a balanced body, and fine-bubbled crema. Inspired by the traditional Swiss “Schümli” style, this blend combines everyday enjoyment with craftsmanship and a mild espresso culture. Ideal for anyone who enjoys a smooth yet well-defined coffee, Café Crème, or espresso—black or with milk.

What Is Schümli Coffee?

Schümli generally refers to a mild to medium-strength coffee prepared using an espresso machine or a superautomatic coffee machine, with a fine crema. The term comes from Swiss German and means “little foam,” referring to the characteristic crema that makes this coffee so special. The style became popular in Switzerland in the late 20th century, as superautomatic coffee machines began appearing in homes. The resulting drink is also called Café Crème.

Unlike classic espresso, Schümli is characterized by a lighter, medium roast, a larger serving size (Café Crème), and milder flavors than darker espresso roasts. It is brewed directly, unlike an Americano, which is made by diluting espresso with water.

Why Is Schümli So Popular?
Its mild roast gives the coffee a pleasantly rounded flavor without much bitterness, while the fine crema creates a smooth mouthfeel. In Switzerland, Schümli is often enjoyed black, but it also works well as a base for milk drinks such as cappuccino or mild café au lait.

The Blend – Tailored to Superautomatic Coffee Machines

Mainzer Schümli consists of a balanced blend of carefully roasted beans:

  • 40% Arabica from South America
  • 30% Arabica from Asia
  • 30% Robusta from Asia

The beans are medium-roasted using a gentle, long-duration drum-roasting process, precisely tailored to the needs of modern superautomatic coffee machines and espresso machines.
