Description
Bolivia delights us
Our curiosity and passion for coffee led us to explore beans from Bolivia. Its geography is ideal for growing exceptional coffees. The expertise of Bolivian producers brings out the best in their harvest, much to the delight of our coffee machines!
Bolivia, a haven for coffee
Our San Juan fair-trade coffee comes from the Yungas regions. The Warm Lands, the Quechua translation, lie east of the capital, La Paz. They form a boundary between the Altiplano, the high plateaus of the Andes mountain range, and the lush vegetation of the Amazon rainforest. More precisely, the coffees grown by the San Juan cooperative in Bolivia are found in Caravani Province. The Yungas region is known for skies blanketed in clouds. Indeed, above the wild flora of this part of Bolivia, a milky sky lingers. There are two main reasons for this phenomenon. First, this province alternates between hot and more moderate temperatures. Second, the tropical climate, which is humid and sometimes very rainy, fosters this fertile environment. To create optimal growing conditions, the soil is constantly irrigated by a multitude of streams. This forest belt is an ideal area for growing tropical fruits, sugar cane, and coffee.
Artisanal expertise
Each coffee from a different region of the world has its own geographic characteristics and preparation methods. Transforming coffee cherries into beans ready for roasting requires a demanding process. Producers grow their coffee trees at elevations between 1,200 and 1,600 meters above sea level. San Juan fair-trade coffee is a blend of three Arabica varieties: red and yellow Catuai and Typica. To sort and select the best beans, farmers hand-pick the coffee cherries. They then spread the harvest out on patios to dry. The entire harvest is washed to bring out all the aromatic qualities of San Juan.
San Juan: flavor and ethics

San Juan, a distinctive flavor
It’s hard not to love our San Juan fair-trade coffee from Bolivia. This balanced cup charms with its bright acidity, which quickly mellows. Fruity notes of blackcurrant and raspberry mingle with a very delicate caramel aroma. The aromatic finesse of this delicious cup pairs beautifully with a chocolate pastry or a shortbread cookie. We’re delighted to offer it now, as it lets us continue to raise our standards.
