Description

Les Torréfacteurs Français are happy to offer you this famous coffee bean year-round! In fact, many artisan roasters stop working with Jamaica Blue Mountain because of a lack of demand. Here, enthusiasm for this coffee is impressive…

Is Blue Mountain the best coffee in the world?

Jamaica Blue Mountain’s fame traveled around the world before reaching our roastery.

Its origins

Sometimes it takes a stroke of fate to write a beautiful story. Coffee arrived on the island through an exchange of goodwill between the governors of Martinique and Jamaica. In 1728, a French dignitary gave his counterpart a coffee tree, and cultivation of the precious bean began. After a rapid start, Jamaica suffered a crisis at the end of the 18th century due to the German market being blocked. The Haitian Revolution then caused a global shortage that benefited Jamaican coffee, whose production boomed. The abolition of slavery sent coffee cultivation into a downward spiral, as many farmers preferred to grow vegetables. In the 20th century, the English brought their love of high-quality coffee to the island. They passed on their high standards and knowledge of every step involved in coffee production.

Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain takes its name from the mountainous regions in the east of the island. It is a true natural sanctuary where coffee trees can thrive. Grown at an altitude of at least 1,800 meters, they benefit from fertile soil, perfectly irrigated by frequent rainfall, a mild climate, and skilled labor. More than 20,000 coffee growers work across the 6,000 hectares where Blue Mountain is grown, most of them on small farms that account for the majority of production.

The Jamaica Blue Mountain Trade

Some roasters consider Blue Mountain overrated. Its price is necessarily high compared with pure Arabica beans from other equally prestigious origins, but it has to be said that tasting a small cup of Jamaican coffee is a truly enjoyable experience. Today, as with Australia’s Skybury, the vast majority of production is reserved for the Japanese market. The Japanese are known for loving the finer things and are always seeking the world’s best products. If the Japanese have set their sights on Jamaica Blue Mountain, it’s no accident…

Excellence every day

We’ve noticed genuine demand for this Jamaican coffee, rated 83 by the SCA, which is why we regularly send it throughout France.

Jamaica deserves artisan roasting

Our roasters love seeing the white barrel containing the famous Jamaican bean arrive. It really is unlike the others, preferring its 15 kg wooden case to an ordinary 60 kg burlap sack. Demand for this rare coffee was very high, and we could feel the impatience and curiosity of everyone who had never tasted it. Its reputation helped us sell the first barrel in two weeks, and since then we’ve maintained steady sales that allow us to offer Jamaica Blue Mountain year-round.

Our pride

We’re very proud to artisan-roast this famous bean while preserving its freshness and aroma. Many small roasters can’t afford to do so because of limited demand. We don’t want to let industrial roasters ruin this black gold with their huge machines. In fact, if you see Jamaica Blue Mountain for sale at a market heavyweight, please run! They destroy its balanced body with an overly dark roast.

What makes Jamaica Blue Mountain from Les Torréfacteurs Français special:

  • We have only 90 kg of this gem per year
  • We roast it in 3 kg batches
  • For online orders, your package was roasted less than 15 days ago on average, and it is ground on the day it ships for optimal freshness.

Jamaica Blue Mountain: a coffee for everyone?

Jamaica Blue Mountain has long owed its fame to its rarity and price. On average, a bag costs six times more than a standard bag from a roaster. If you drink several coffees a day, it seems quite expensive to drink only Jamaican coffee! But true enthusiasts should absolutely enjoy this coffee’s aromatic finesse from time to time. That’s why most of the bags we sell are gifts for coffee lovers. You’re sure to delight someone with such a gift! Blue Mountain is often given at Christmas, beneath the tree, but also throughout the year for birthdays.

 An excellent bean

Its balanced body gives it a pleasant mouthfeel in your cup, whatever brewing method you use. Its floral fragrances also leave cocoa notes on the palate. Its aromas quickly fade from the mouth, leaving only a touch of acidity. Even if this bean doesn’t become your everyday cup, you won’t regret the experience of tasting it.
