Origin Story

This fully washed AB lot comes from Kamwangi Factory in Kirinyaga County, Kenya, one of the country's most renowned coffee-growing regions. Situated in the fertile central highlands, the area benefits from high elevations, rich volcanic soils, cool temperatures, and plentiful rainfall, creating ideal conditions for producing vibrant, complex coffees with exceptional sweetness.

Kamwangi Factory is one of three washing stations operated by the New Ngariama Farmers Cooperative Society, which works with around 1,500 smallholder coffee farmers across the region. The cooperative plays an important role in supporting local producers, helping farmers improve coffee quality while strengthening the communities that depend on coffee production.

Carefully selected ripe cherries are delivered to the factory before undergoing Kenya's traditional fully washed process. The cherries are pulped and fermented for 24 to 36 hours before being washed and graded through channels, separating the densest and highest-quality beans. The coffee is then soaked in clean water before being carefully dried on raised African beds, where it is turned regularly to ensure even drying. This meticulous process produces a clean, vibrant cup with exceptional clarity and fruit character.

Grown between 1,600 and 2,000 metres above sea level, this lot combines Batian, Ruiru 11, and the renowned SL28 variety to create a distinctly expressive Kenyan profile.

Roastery & Brewing Notes

Bright, juicy, and beautifully complex, this coffee showcases the vibrant fruit character and lively acidity that make Kenyan coffees so distinctive. Sweet red cherry leads the cup, complemented by delicate vanilla and juicy grapefruit, while a subtle liquorice character adds depth and complexity to the finish.

The fully washed process allows these flavours to shine with remarkable clarity, creating a coffee that feels both refreshing and refined. Expect a lively acidity, rounded sweetness, and a clean finish that develops beautifully as the coffee cools.

Best enjoyed as a filter coffee, try it brewed with a V60, AeroPress or Cafetiere.
