Description

Forget what you know about Sumatra. This is a Typica from the Bener Meriah highlands of Aceh, Indonesia, grown at 1,300 to 1,400 metres and processed nothing like a classic Sumatran coffee.

After harvest, ripe cherries rest for 16 hours, then ferment with yeast and dried lychee before they are patio-dried and wet-hulled in the Sumatran tradition. The result is jammy, floral and fruit-forward, with a soft vanilla sweetness that comes through as the cup cools.

Lightly roasted to protect the lychee and the florals. Best as filter, pour-over or cold drip: brew it hot, drink it slow.

Grown by Central Sumatera Coffee, a 100-hectare estate in Bener Meriah founded in 2015. The team controls harvest and processing closely enough to experiment, and this lychee co-fermentation is one of those experiments.
