Description

Costa Rica is located in southern Central America and borders Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the southeast. Excellent geographic and climatic conditions helped coffee cultivation spread early on. The first coffee plants arrived from Cuba in 1779. Coffee has been exported since 1820. Today, the country accounts for approximately 3% of global coffee exports. Coffee exports remain a very important part of the economy. The country is also notable because it is one of the developing countries that has managed to combine coffee cultivation with modern science, agricultural technology, and economic demands. At the same time, high-altitude coffees from Costa Rica are among the best in the world, as the soil and climate provide ideal conditions alongside modern technology. As a result, Costa Rican coffee grown at elevations between 900 and 1,800 m has a delicate acidity. The beans are blue-green to blue, large, and slender, with almost no traces of silverskin. As a roasted coffee, they have a neutral flavor, yet are mild and full-bodied, with a delicate aroma.
