Description

A balanced coffee with notes of praline and hazelnut, and low acidity. The finish is smooth, with chocolate notes.
A young coffee-growing region, Cerrado began producing coffee in the early 1960s and is now internationally recognized for its quality. Located in the state of Minas Gerais, in western Brazil, Cerrado has nevertheless suffered from the increasingly widespread misappropriation of its name and reputation by neighboring regions. Until a few years ago, 10 million bags were exported from the country under the “Cerrado” name, even though the region’s actual production capacity was 5 million bags.
In 2013, producers obtained the “Cerrado Mineiro” Designation of Origin (DO). This mark of quality certifies the coffee’s authenticity, proving that it truly comes from the region and has qualities specific to its terroir. Consumers and roasters can therefore be sure they are tasting Arabica coffee (a blend of varieties, primarily Mundo Novo and Catuaí) produced within the area defined by the certification, at altitudes between 800 and 1,300 m.
Today, the Designation of Origin represents 4,500 producers across 17,000 hectares and is supported by 9 cooperatives, 7 associations, and 1 foundation. An independent organization certifies the quality of the coffees to determine whether or not they can be certified “Cerrado Mineiro.”
