This juicy coffee comes from the Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia and is processed and dried at the Chelchele Washing Station. Coffees from the Yirgacheffe region are known for their floral aromas with notes of citrus. Natural processing gives Chelchele a special touch: a distinctive berry flavor reminiscent of ripe currants.

What exactly is a Washing Station? Many families in Ethiopia make their living growing coffee, but not every family has the machinery and capacity to process the coffee further. That’s why there are Washing Stations in every larger town in Ethiopia, where smallholder farmers bring their coffee cherries. They are also paid directly there, and the station then takes care of the processing.

For this coffee, the coffee cherries are hand-sorted, then dried on raised beds for several days, and finally hulled and packed into jute sacks.
