ABOUT THE FARM.

Purchases of this IMPACT-certified coffee from Kibingo washing station contribute to an IMPACT Beyond flagship project that establishes livestock solidarity chains, helping coffee-growing families access livestock.

As part of our Beyond flagship program portfolio, this initiative supports improved incomes, access to microcredit, women’s business development, and organic farming inputs, among other components, contributing to our IMPACT living income goal.

Kibingo washing station is located in Kayanza commune, in northern Burundi. The station is situated at 1,893 meters above sea level. The altitude of the farms on the neighboring hills that supply the washing station ranges from 1,700 to 1,900 meters above sea level. Kibingo serves 1,739 registered coffee farmers, spread across 18 hills in the area. All producers registered with a Greenco washing station are organized into groups of 30 people, led by a farm leader. This leader acts as a spokesperson to facilitate communication and organization with the washing station.

The washing station is equipped with 10 fermentation tanks, 2 soaking tanks, and a drying area with 165 drying tables and 4 pre-drying tables. Kibingo can process 750,000 kg of coffee cherries per day. At the washing station, farmers can obtain organic fertilizer made from composted coffee pulp. To promote farm renewal, producers can obtain low-cost, subsidized coffee seedlings at the washing station. Each station has its own nursery for this purpose.

The washing station participates in several agricultural support and extension projects, including a livestock-rearing project and various projects focused on strengthening cooperatives and improving yields.
