origin and provenance
Brazil Portilho Estate comes from Fazenda Portilho, located in the Matas de Minas region on the slopes of Serra do Caparaó. For over a hundred years, the Portilho family has grown coffee in this mountainous area, characterized by mineral-rich granite soils, hot, rainy summers, and cool, dry winters—ideal conditions for producing high-quality specialty coffee.
Today, the estate is led by Sidney Portilho, a producer and barista who combines family tradition with a modern approach focused on excellence. On just 16 hectares, every stage of processing is carried out with great care: the cherries are handpicked only when fully ripe, fermented anaerobically, and slowly dried on raised beds to preserve aromatic clarity and bring out the coffee’s natural sweetness.
The family’s commitment was recognized in 2019 at International Coffee Week, where Fazenda Portilho placed third among more than 500 Brazilian coffees. With an SCA score of 87.5, this lot offers a contemporary take on Brazilian coffee: full body, intense sweetness, and lively citrus acidity alongside notes of red fruit, raw cane sugar, and boozy nuances.
