We’re especially happy to finally have a coffee from Uganda in our selection again, because the country of origin, Uganda, is very close to our hearts thanks to the Lichtstrahl Project.

That’s why we’d like to make this coffee our “Lichtstrahl Kaffee” and donate €2 per kg directly to the project!

Lichtstrahl Kaffee is a balanced blend of 80% Arabica and 20% Robusta beans. Roasted as an omniroast, it impresses with its versatility and is suitable for a wide variety of brewing methods. Whether as classic drip coffee, made in a superautomatic machine, or as an aromatic espresso, Lichtstrahl Kaffee offers a well-rounded coffee experience.

The Empaako Collective (Empaako is the word for “pet name” in the Rutooro language) now actively supports more than 100 producers and plans to expand this group in the coming years. Together with ten permanent team members, its goal is to provide smallholder farmers with consistent, effective support and regular opportunities to connect, and to help them address their challenges over the long term:
They struggle with pests and diseases, often have only a few fertilizers and tools at their disposal, and are also exposed to significant fluctuations in coffee prices.

In the Rwenzori Mountains, village representatives collect the smallholder farmers’ coffee cherries and bring them to the processing station. There, they are paid fairly as part of the team. Producers receive their money quickly and directly via mobile money. The coffee from each village community is then processed separately, so its origin and harvest dates remain traceable.
