Mauricio Rosales' farm, La Maravilla, is not one you stumble upon accidentally. When he purchased the farm from the legendary El Injerto Estate he had to cut a road, by hand, from the granite face of the mountain. It's now legendary in coffee circles, and the precarious drive up is a fitting gauntlet to prove your commitment to seeking out the fantastic coffee awaiting you at the top.

Mauricio is what many call a "community pillar." When he carved a road out of the granite mountain his farm sits on, he continued building it to the indigenous community above. He recently brought electricity to his farm and continued it up to these same people- a project in which we are supporting with our accelerator pin of Quetzalcoatl.

La Maravilla is planted with Pache, Bourbon, and Caturra, traditional varieties that thrive in Huehuetenango’s extreme elevation. This Pache lot grows along the top of the farm in rugged, rocky terrain, where the high altitude and cool temperatures slow cherry development and concentrate sweetness. Using a washed process and raised-bed drying, Mauricio preserves clarity and structure while highlighting the bold, chocolate character this site is known for.
