DECAFIK Decaffeinated Organic Whole Bean Coffee Co2

We’re introducing our new decaffeinated coffee, which has had its caffeine removed using the so-called Co2 method. These certified organic beans come from farms in Peru and Nicaragua.

There are several different methods used to decaffeinate coffee beans. One of the most popular is „SWISS WATER”. Generally speaking, this is a process in which caffeine is removed from the beans by rinsing them in water for an extended period. This method ultimately affects the size of the beans, which simply swell during the process. 

Co2 is a completely natural method that is safe for the environment. It begins by soaking the raw beans in water. This opens the pores of the beans, allowing the Co2 to penetrate evenly and with the right intensity. The beans are then placed in a pressure chamber and exposed to Co2. Under these conditions, Co2 has the properties of both a gas and a liquid. This allows it to dissolve the caffeine in the coffee more effectively.

After several hours, the Co2 is sufficiently saturated with caffeine. The Co2 is then separated from the coffee and recycled for reuse in other applications. The beans are then dried to a moisture level of 10 – 11 % and delivered to the coffee roastery.

After roasting, the coffee develops its sensory profile, which we would describe as: 

High sweetness of maple syrup, dried fruit, and delicate raspberry acidity.
