Hawaii Kona

Corica works directly with Hawaii's Kona coffee producers, the Aloha Farms cooperative. Their mission is to promote sustainable coffee practices and provide opportunities for Hawaiian families and farms. Arabica Kona coffee is grown in the South Kona region, a tropical rainforest thriving on the slopes of Mount Hualalai. All coffee cherries are hand-picked because of the rugged, steep terrain. They are then sent for processing, where most of the coffee cherries are depulped. Hawaii is the only U.S. state with the right climate for growing coffee. Combined with its limited supply and legal requirements to pay fair wages and taxes, this contributes to the high demand for and cost of 100% Kona coffee. Kona coffee has won numerous awards at tasting competitions around the world. Kona beans can have notes of brown sugar, milk chocolate, honey, and a hint of bright fruit. It is generally described as clear, bright, and clean. The aftertaste is very pleasant and lingering, with notes of nuts and citrus. The aroma is a unique, sweet blend reminiscent of caramel, butter, cocoa, or fruit.
