Ethiopia Karamo

Karamo is a village in the Bura district of Sidama, and the 400-odd smallholders who farm around it deliver cherry daily to Gara Agena, a washing station Testi Coffee built in 2020 on the slopes above the Geta River. Most of these farms run under a hectare, worked without chemicals and planted through with corn, grain, and bananas under native shade.

The station sits at 2,250 meters and the farms feeding it run from roughly 1,995 to 2,230, high enough that the river’s cool water and the altitude together stretch drying out. This lot is a natural, from Ethiopian landraces that dominate the area. Cherry is hand-sorted for ripeness, floated to pull the light fruit, then spread in thin layers on raised beds, turned five or six times a day and covered through the midday heat and overnight.

In the cup, we taste stone fruit and mixed berry with a juicy finish.
