Description

Casa is our award-winning house espresso blend, a staple on the bar here at Rin’s and one of our most popular roasts. A blend of two fantastic coffees, a natural from Andrea Costa at Chácara Santo Antônio Brazil and a washed offering from the innovative Coope Dota in Costa Rica, the flavour notes of milk chocolate, strawberry jam and praline make it the ideal espresso blend for any at-home baristas, and a great entry point into speciality coffee.

About the producers

Producer: Andrea Costa
Country: Brazil
Region: Espirito Santo do Pinhal
Elevation: 800-1100 MASL
Variety: Red Catuai
Process: Natural
Tasting notes: Cocoa, Nuts, Pineapple

This lot comes from Chácara Santo Antônio, owned and farmed by Andrea Costa, alongside her brother Luis. The farm sits on the outskirts of Pinhal at elevations between 800–1,100 metres above sea level, surrounded by a mix of open farmland and dense forest. The region is known for its fertile volcanic soils, which provide an ideal foundation for growing coffee with depth and sweetness.

Beyond coffee, the farm is home to a wildlife reserve and is teeming with wildlife, including wolves, jaguars and exotic birdlife such as Toucans and Red-legged Seriemas — curious, emu-like birds that thrive in coffee and forest environments and help keep snake populations in check. The many ponds scattered across the farm are also home to plenty of friendly waterfowl, adding to the sense that this is a place where agriculture and nature comfortably coexist.

Producer: Coope Dota
Country: Costa Rica
Region: Santa Maria de Dota, Tarrazu
Altitude: 1500 - 2600 MASL
Variety: Red Catuai, Yellow Catuai, Red Caturra, Yellow Caturra
Process: Washed
Tasting Notes: Plum, Maple, Apple

We've paired it with a superb washed offering from the innovative Coope Dota in Costa Rica. The cooperative represents over 1000 smallholder producers from the areas surrounding the town of Santa Maria de Dota in the Tarrazu region and were the first coffee processor in the world to be awarded carbon neutral status, way back in 2011.

The cooperative has been producing sensational coffees for more than 60 years, with an ever increasing focus on innovation and sustainability. They were the first processors in the world to be certified carbon neutral in 2011, have worked hard to address gender equality throughout the business and are committed to supporting young people both academically, offering coffee diplomas at their own school, and through sport, which has seen multiple young members head to the Olympics.
