Description

This coffee comes from the  Cerrado region, from  the Grossi family. In 1879, José Carlos’s grandfather, Antônio Grossi, emigrated from Italy’s Veneto region to Brazil, hoping to work on the coffee plantations in the state of São Paulo. Years later, in 1950, his son Matheus Grossi decided to invest in a small coffee farm in northwestern Paraná. Born in Garça, in the interior of São Paulo state, José Carlos helped his father on the farm whenever he could, then enrolled at ESALQ / USP agricultural school in 1966 to deepen his knowledge of coffee farming.

José Carlos Grossi left the family fields in Paraná in 1972 to start his first coffee farm in the then little-known Cerrado Mineiro region. With his $10,000 in savings, he began the story of JC Grossi & Filhos in this still largely unexplored terroir. In 1991, his efforts paid off: focused on achieving consistent quality, José Carlos adopted a vertical integration strategy for production, allowing him to improve quality control and the traceability of the coffees produced. He also conducted research to adapt cultivation to the Cerrado and established an experimental plot in 1994.

Since 2005, they have been UTZ and Rainforest Alliance certified.

This lot was designed for espresso: a blend of 50% natural and 50% pulped natural (honey), made from the Red Catuai and Mundo Novo varieties. This dual processing approach combines sweetness, roundness, and structure, with aromatic brightness from honey fermentation.

This coffee crosses the Atlantic by sail, extending José Carlos’s commitment to more responsible farming and logistics, from the Cerrado to the roasters
