Valdir Jose Ferreira’s grandparents moved to Caconde 35 years ago. After spending childhood holidays on the farm, he returned as an adult to establish Joaninha, a 7-hectare estate. Today, Valdir, his wife Daniela, their two children and Valdir’s parents all help run the farm together.
Named after the ladybug, Joaninha’s mission is to restore ecosystem balance. Ladybugs, bees and butterflies have returned thanks to regenerative practices. Their Arara beans taste like plum and lemon rinds with toast bread warmth. This year’s harvest produced the highest cupping coffee from the region. A family came home, planted native trees and let the land breathe again.
