Chelchele is an excellent washed organic coffee from Ethiopia. It is incredibly juicy and clear—a complex coffee that is wonderfully easy to drink. Its moderate acidity makes it lively, and its fruity notes and sweetness make you want to keep drinking it.

The Chelchele Washing Station is named after the village of Chelchele, where coffee from growing areas at altitudes between 1900 and 2100 meters is processed. Chelchele itself is located in the Gedeb district, 424 km south of Addis Ababa.

The facility is located at an altitude of 2000 meters and has well-developed infrastructure, including several fermentation and washing tanks, numerous drying beds, and two water tanks.

The coffee plants are grown in intercropping systems with beans and avocado trees in the
reddish-brown, fertile soil of the region. The site also includes a large warehouse for processing green coffee.

Chelchele processes coffee using both the Natural and Washed methods, with local smallholder farmers delivering ripe cherries to the facility.

The region has an average annual temperature of 16.5 degrees Celsius and receives adequate rainfall, around 1404 mm per year, with rain evenly distributed throughout the year. There are two rainy seasons: from February to May and from July to October. The coffee plants’ flowering period lasts from February to April, while the harvest season runs from October to January.
