Description

Ethiopia Gogogu – washed – Grade 1 – Guji

This coffee comes from the Gogogu Washing Station in the Kofee district of Guji, Ethiopia. This washing station produces both washed and natural coffees using the traditional Ethiopian method of processing ripe cherries.

More than 700 farmers deliver cherries from within about 5 km of the mill. The average farm size is about 2 hectares, and coffee is the main source of income in this region.
Average rainfall here is 1,600–2,000 mm, and the coffee harvest usually takes place from mid-December through the end of February.
Coffee in Ethiopia is typically grown on very small plots by farmers who also grow other crops. Most smallholders deliver their coffee cherries to a nearby washing station or central processing facility, where their coffee is sorted, weighed, and paid for or submitted in exchange for a receipt. The coffee is then processed at the washing station.
