Description
MEXICO LA TRIBU SPECIALTY COFFEE
This specialty coffee from Mexico is part of our seasonal blend. Try it on its own, too!
Who grows this specialty coffee from Mexico?
Café la Tribu A.C. is a strategic organization that provides support, guidance, advice, and training to these cooperatives. It covers all aspects of commercial, financial, production, and organizational processes. This Mexico La Tribu specialty coffee comes from a network of cooperatives. Café la Tribu is a nonprofit association whose members work together across four cooperatives:
Together, these four cooperatives include 827 producers from six municipalities (45% women). Their estimated output is about 32,969 quintales of parchment coffee, with coverage of approximately 2,631.75 hectares. This coffee from Mexico indirectly supports around 2,695 families.
They grow their crops in harmony with nature and according to organic farming practices. Most of the coffee plantations are grown under diverse shade.
The affiliated farms and plots are located between 1,500 and 1,800 meters above sea level.
Sierra Madre de Chiapas Region
Coffee from the Sierra Madre de Chiapas region is well known around the world. Producers in this region have farms averaging 3 hectares per producer, with an average yield of 13 to 15 quintales per hectare.
El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve
The plots are located in the buffer zone of a protected natural area, the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve.
This corner of the country's southeast is one of the few places where you can see the quetzal flying. This bird inspired the myth of the feathered serpent, which has had a profound influence on the country's culture. The quetzal, along with the jaguar, ocelot, tapir, and thousands of other species, depends on these ecosystems. This bird was key to the designation of this area, covering nearly 120,000 hectares, as a Biosphere Reserve in 1990.
Much of the region's natural wealth is due to the abundant water that flows through it. Its mountains are covered with trees and act like a sponge, absorbing moisture from the Pacific Ocean. This is why the region gets so much fog and rain.
Together, these geographical conditions create an ideal environment for producing high-quality coffee. The region's geography and climate contribute not only to higher yields but also to better flavor characteristics in the cup.
Sustainable and organic farming
The coffee produced by these cooperatives is organic. It is certified with NOP, EU, and LPO seals by the Mayacert Certification Agency.
Our Mexico La Tribu specialty coffee is not only delicious, but also organically grown. The coffee farmers who contribute to this coffee use organic fertilizers.
The coffee farmers who grow Mexico La Tribu specialty coffee cultivate their coffee under shade. Coffee grown in the shade of taller trees has many benefits for sustainable cultivation. Most importantly, it allows birds and insects to coexist and naturally control pests and diseases. As a result, the use of agricultural pesticides is reduced or even eliminated.
In addition, trees provide many nutrients needed for coffee plants to grow well. As if that weren't enough, they also improve the soil's ability to capture carbon and regenerate.
Finally, the shade from the trees makes coffee cherries grow more slowly, allowing them to develop their full range of qualities.
This Mexico La Tribu specialty coffee is naturally dried, using only the sun and wind.
