Mexico is not only a country of diverse landscapes, but also one with deeply rooted traditions. Its picturesque landscape features everything from vast deserts and snow-capped mountain peaks to misty forests and charming coastlines. Its central location near the Atlantic and Pacific oceans provides ideal conditions for growing coffee.

Mexico offers not only a wealth of landscapes, but also a variety of microclimates, resulting in a wide range of flavors in Mexican coffee.

The history of coffee in Mexico dates back to the late 18th century, when it first appeared in the country. Today, coffee is grown in 16 states, with most production concentrated in the south, particularly in the regions of Chiapas, Oaxaca, and Veracruz. A variety of coffees are produced there, from delicate to sweet, with notes of caramel or chocolate.

Despite its rich history and high-quality product, Mexican coffee is often underappreciated. After the Mexican Revolution in the 1920s, land was transferred to small farmers, changing the structure of production. In the 1970s, coffee was finally recognized as an important export product that supported the development of rural areas. Mexico then became the world's fourth-largest coffee producer. Unfortunately, the „coffee crisis” of the 1990s caused a sharp decline in coffee production and quality. Farmers then began forming cooperatives to face the crisis together. These cooperatives provided technical support, training, and help with marketing and financial matters, while also promoting sustainable coffee production.

Today, a large percentage of coffee from Mexico goes to the U.S. market. We are proud to have several lots of the highest-quality Mexican coffee in our shop.
