KENYA Gichathaini Filterkaffee

Our coffee beans Kenya Gichathaini taste berry-sweet, with notes of blueberry, gooseberry and toffee.

The washed green coffee comes from the Gichathaini Wet Mill in Nyeri County, Kenya. It is operated by the Gikanda Farmers Cooperative Society. The coffee plants in this lot grow on the slopes of the extinct volcano Mount Kenya, in an area known for its bright red, nutrient-rich volcanic soil, high elevation and cool climate.

Most farmers in Nyeri belong to smallholder cooperatives with an average farm size of just half a hectare, and grow bananas, corn, macadamia, avocados and vegetables alongside coffee. The beans for our coffee are grown in the area around the Gichathaini Factory, which is located at an elevation of 1,891 meters. After the farmers harvest the coffee cherries of the SL-28, Batian, Ruiru 11 and SL-34 varieties and bring them to the station, they are washed, sorted and dried there. The green coffee reaches us through Plotcoffee, a Hamburg-based company focused on sustainable specialty coffee.
