About the origin

This coffee comes from a small-scale farmer in Aldea El Socorro, in the Acatenango Valley. The farm is located near Finca Palestina, owned by Joël Perez. We sourced this lot through Joël, with whom we have built a good relationship. Joël is also the producer of our excellent Guatemala Gesha, which was shipped to Europe in the same shipment by sailboat. The name Vecino de Perez literally means “neighbor of (Joël) Perez.”

The area around Aldea El Socorro lies on the slopes of the Acatenango and Fuego volcanoes. The volcanic soils are continually replenished with minerals from ash deposits from Fuego, which is almost continuously active nearby. Together with the pronounced day-to-night temperature swings, this terroir provides the foundation for coffee from the area.
