Description

Colombia – Risaralda – Belén de Umbría – El Caney – decaffeinated

Discover the essence of Colombian coffee without the caffeine kick. This coffee comes from the renowned Finca El Caney in Risaralda, a region famous for its excellent ‘natural’ and ‘washed’ coffees.
We previously featured El Caney’s (‘natural’) coffees in our selection, both times as high-quality, non-decaffeinated specialty coffee.
This time, we’re offering a decaffeinated version from El Caney. While older and/or lower-quality beans are often used for decaffeination, only fresh, superior beans were used here.
This coffee stands out with an impressive score of 85.5 points.
Most of the beans were processed using the ‘washed’ method, while about 10% of the beans are ‘natural’.
This combination adds another layer of fruitiness and complexity, resulting in a beautifully balanced tasting experience.

The decaffeination process used by the farmers is as clean as the coffee itself. It uses water from mountain springs combined with ethyl acetate (EA) derived from natural sources. EA occurs naturally in coffee cherries, as well as in various fruits and vegetables, and is obtained through a process based on sugarcane, so no synthetic chemicals are introduced. This water-EA method gently removes caffeine from the beans while preserving their natural structure and distinctive qualities, without exposing them to excessive heat or pressure.

This decaf coffee is the only naturally decaffeinated Colombian coffee at origin and is 99.9% caffeine-free. It offers the same rich flavor and aroma to enjoy, without the stimulating effects.
