This coffee comes from Finca Puerta Verde, a name you may recognize. Still, this coffee offers a very different experience from the Bourbon lots we’ve offered in recent years. Although it comes from the same trusted farm, this release showcases the rare Java variety, revealing a completely new side of Antigua’s coffee potential.

We’ve had the pleasure of working with Ricardo Zelaya and his team for many years. Their commitment to quality and innovation continues to surprise us season after season. Puerta Verde is located in Antigua, one of Guatemala’s most renowned coffee regions, and benefits from fertile volcanic soils, a unique microclimate, and meticulous quality control at every stage of production.

Ricardo has modernized the farm while respecting its rich history. This carefully produced Java lot reflects that vision, offering an elegant, refined coffee with exceptional clarity, floral complexity, and lively sweetness. It’s a wonderful reminder that even a familiar farm can continue to surprise us.

Here’s how we brew this coffee!

The perfect espresso recipe depends on many factors: machine, grinder, water, filter basket, beans, etc. At our bar in The Hague, we usually start with this recipe:

19 grams of coffee for an output of 45 grams of espresso (a double espresso).

We start with a 25-second extraction time.
