Why Arabica India Monsooned Malabar?

India is the world's fifth-largest producer of Arabica coffee, after Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and Ethiopia. Legend credits the Muslim pilgrim Baba Budan with bringing seven coffee seeds back from a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. It is said that he planted them near his mountain cave in Chikmahlur, in the state of Karnataka, which is now considered the birthplace of coffee in India.

Commercial coffee cultivation in India began in 1840, when the British established coffee plantations in the mountains of southern India, where the tropical climate, high altitude, sunny slopes, abundant rainfall, and humus-rich soil proved ideal for growing coffee.

India Monsooned Malabar Coffee is Arabica Plantation AA that undergoes a seven-week process in which the coffee is exposed to moisture from the monsoon storms that sweep through the coastal Malabar region, located between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats. In the days of sailing ships, coffee from India took about six months to reach Europe. During transport, the beans were exposed to moisture, which changed their flavor and appearance. When the Suez Canal opened and steamships arrived, transport times shortened, and the coffee was no longer subjected to these specific conditions. Customers in Europe noticed the change in the coffee's flavor, so the monsooning process was developed to recreate the effect of prolonged exposure to moisture. This process gives the coffee a deep, intense flavor, but no acidity.
