Alo Tamiru – Éthiopie

The village of Alo clings to the highlands of Bensa, at more than 2,400 meters. At this altitude, the cherries ripen slowly and develop bright acidity, giving this lot its citrus notes and juicy structure. The 74158 variety, selected by the Jimma research center, is washed here using the traditional method.

Tamiru Tadesse first taught at a university and worked as an electrical engineer. He had long been involved in coffee from the inside, observing an industry where quality counted for little and producers sold at a loss. This experience kept him from starting his own business for many years.

The turning point came in 2020, with the first Cup of Excellence competition held in Ethiopia: proof that exceptional coffee could finally be recognized as such. Tamiru and his wife Messi entered a lot from their village the following year. It won the competition. Since then, Alo Coffee has worked with the same idea: to show what the terroirs of this region can produce, and to make sure the producers themselves know it.
