Ndiaini Peaberry: Kenya, back on the table

I chose this month's coffee for a simple reason: I love coffee from Kenya. The bright profile of these coffees keeps drawing me back.

We don't bring Kenyan coffee into Transcend very often because of its high cost. The Reserve Club gives us room to share a unique offering from an origin I would love to have on the shelf more often.

For Release No. 003, that opportunity comes from Ndiaini in Nyeri.

About Ndiaini

Ndiaini is a shared processing station within Rumukia Farmers Cooperative Society. It receives coffee from 315 contributing farmers, many working plots of half an acre to one acre.

What makes it a peaberry?

Most coffee cherries contain two seeds. A peaberry develops as a mutation, a single rounded seed and is sorted separately during milling. The name describes the bean's shape, rather than a coffee variety.

Careful Processing & Selection

Cherries are sorted and depulped, then fermented overnight and washed. Drying on raised tables takes two to three weeks, depending on the weather. The coffee rests to stabilize its moisture before milling.

Flavour Profile

It’s a signature Kenyan coffee with lots of complexity: bright, juicy, sweet and subtly savoury, with dominant flavours of key lime, honey and black tea.

Try a few sips while the coffee is hot, then return to it as it cools.

A note from Poul

I haven't been to Kenya, but I love its coffees. This release is a chance to share that enjoyment with you.

I hope you enjoy it.

— Poul
