About the coffee:
One of your special favorites from last season is back—and with it, the joy of finally being able to brew (and drink!) filter coffee around the clock with this wonderful Single-Origin Decaf, without worrying about your heart rate :)
But seriously: Thanks to modern processing methods, decaf can be really good—and that’s no longer as difficult as it once was, even though we have to admit that sourcing remains somewhat of a challenge.
Sometimes, though, gems like this one from the Small-Batch series by Swiss Water come our way. And of course, we pick them up for you!
About the origin:
Under the umbrella of Gold Mountain Coffee Growers, more than 70 producers in Nicaragua are united in a community distinguished by high quality standards, socially responsible business practices, careful use of resources, and traceability in cultivation.
About the processing:
This coffee is partly carbonic macerated and partly processed natural (dry), then decaffeinated using Swiss Water Processing.
Speaking of decaffeination, here’s how it works in this case:
An initial batch of green coffee beans is soaked in water so that all water-soluble components (caffeine and flavor compounds) dissolve. The caffeine is then filtered out of this enriched water. The water is now saturated with the coffee’s flavor compounds, so it extracts only the caffeine from the next batch of green beans added to it. And voilà! A decaf with all its natural flavors.
